A Bit About So. Pas.

South Pasadena is one the most highly sought-after neighborhoods for living in the Los Angeles basin.  Originally part of Pasadena, South Pasadena residents voted to be independent in 1875 and incorporated in 1888.  South Pasadena is known for its beautiful homes, the small-town feel and its rich historical charm.  In some ways it is a time capsule of late 19th and early 20th century California living.  It has some of the oldest historical sites in the San Gabriel Valley.  The Raymond Hotel, now a restaurant, and the Cawston Ostrich Farm were both in full swing in the late 19th century.  The Ostrich Farm, at one point, had over 100 ostriches bringing tourists from far and wide to the Arroyo Seco to ride and take photo with the African natives.  Today all that's left is part of the brick building marked as a cultural landmark.

The tourists that flocked across the country to see the ostrich farm were charmed by the beauty of southern California and the affordable land at the time in the San Gabriel Valley. Today the city is a wealth of Craftsman architecture and the well-preserved commercial districts add immensely to the small-town charm.

Things to know and do

The K-12 public schools in South Pasadena are some of the region’s most prestigious and the housing market benefits.  Homes are at a premium here due to the public schools, the many historically significance homes in the area, the city’s focus on preservation and the tight-knit community.

The metro Gold Line runs right through the town, stopping at Mission and Meridian Ave., where Thursday evenings a Farmer's Market is in full swing.  The area is loaded with tiny shops and restaurants to enjoy any evening of the week.

Known as "The City of Trees", South Pasadena boasts over 100 acres of parks and playgrounds.  It has a highly involved community which keeps South Pasadena at the forefront for desirable areas to live
