A bit about LCF

La Canada Flintridge originated as two distinct communities within an area known as Rancho La Canada.  When the city incorporated in 1976, it merged to become one city, although the name is often shorted from La Canada Flintridge to just La Canada.  The city is nestled in the far west end of the San Gabriel Valley between the San Gabriel Mountains and Angeles National Forest on the north and the San Rafael Hills on the south.  It varies in elevations from 940 feet near Devil’s Gate Dam in the Arroyo Seco, to 3440 feet on the mountain crestline above the city.

The La Canada Unified School District is one of the top school districts in the state and a big draw for families to the community.  There are three public elementary schools and one public high school serving grades 7-12.  There are multiple private schools in the area, including St. Francis High School, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy and Flintridge Preparatory School.

Things to know and do

La Canada Flitridge has something for everyone, even with it's relatively remote location.  Although NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), has a Pasadena address, it is located on the east end of La Canada.  JPL sits on 177 acres and is open to the public through reservations. It supports the local schools with events throughout the year.  Descanso Gardens, is a 150 acre botanical garden, with several galleries which present exhibitions throughout the year. Hahamongna Watershed Park is in the area, and is home of the first Frisbee golf course, where you can find both amateur and professional ultimate frisbee teams playing games or just having fun.

The city boast of 22 miles of trails, for hikers, pedestrians, equestrians and mountain bikers.  The trails are protected by the city master plan for generations to com.

La Canada has a small-town feel where families feel safe and kids still play in the street without the fear that many may feel being close to a large city. There is a small shopping area along Foothill Blvd. that has shopping, restaurants and entertainment, which has everything the community needs.
